Solution 1. Rectify error H202 by running QuickBooks Database Server Manager
- Close company files, then QuickBooks Desktop, and open your browser.
- Get the newly released version of QuickBooks Tool Hub on your workstation and save the setup file somewhere you can easily find.
- Open the file, follow the instructions given on the screen, and agree to the terms and conditions.
- The QuickBooks Tool Hub icon will show up on the desktop after completing the installation.
- From the desktop, double-click the QuickBooks Tool Hub icon to open it and go to Network Issues.
- Choose QuickBooks Database Server Manager and install QuickBooks on your server computer if not installed already.
- From Qbdbmgrn, look for your company file folder and click Start Scan.
- If you can’t see your company file folder, browse the location of the company file and click Start Scan.
- Once the server manager repairs firewall and completes the scan, click Close.
- Open QuickBooks on the computer where you get error h202, go to the File menu, and click Start Scan.
Solution 2. Check QuickBooks services on the host computer
Follow the steps given below to check for QuickBooksDBXX and repeat the same procedure for QBCFMonitorService:
- Move to your host computer and click the Start menu.
- Write ‘Run’ in the search field, open Run, and write services in the Run window.
- From the list of services, find and double-click QuickBooksDBXX and select Automatic for the Startup Type.
- If ServiceStatus is neither Running or Started, set it to Start and go to the Recovery tab.
- Choose Restart the Service for First failure, Second failure, and Subsequent failure drop-down menu. Then, click Apply to save the settings.
- Now, repeat the same steps for QBCFMonitorService.
- After checking for both QuickBooks services, move to the File menu and choose the Switch to Multi-user Mode option.
Solution 3. Configure Windows firewall and security settings manually
The steps given below will help you add firewall port exceptions for QuickBooks.
- Click the Windows Start menu, type ‘Windows Firewall’ in the search, and open Windows Firewall.
- Choose Advanced Settings, right-click Inbound Rules and then click New Rule.
- Choose Port, then Next and then select TCP.
- Go to the Specific local ports field and fill up the specific port required for the QuickBooks version.
- Click Next after entering the port number and select Allow the Connection option.
- Select all the profiles, click Next and then create a new rule.
- Name the port ‘QBPorts(year)’ and click Finish.
Solution 4. Create exceptions in Windows for some QuickBooks programs
- Tap the Windows key on your keyboard, type Windows Firewall in the search, and open Windows Firewall.
- Choose Advanced Settings, right-click Inbound Rules and choose New Rule.
- Select Program, click Next and then select This Program Path.
- Search and choose one of the executables files and click Next.
- Choose Allow the Connection, click Next and ensure all the profiles are marked.
- Create a new rule with the name ‘QBFirewallException(name.exe).’
- Now, repeat the same steps to create the outbound rule.

Solution 5. Ping your host computer from a workstation to check connectivity
- Move to the server computer, tap the Windows key, and type ‘Network in the search.
- Open Network and Sharing Center and choose Change advanced sharing settings.
- Go to the Network Discovery and File and Printer sharing sections to check if the Turn on network discovery option is selected.
- Now, to get your server name click the Start menu on your server computer and type ‘Run’.
- Open Run, write CMD in the Run window, and click Enter.
- The name adjacent to the Hostname is your server name.
- Note down the hostname, go to the workstation and click the Windows Start menu.
- Type ‘Run’ in the search, open Run, and then write CMD in the Run window.
- Tap the Enter key, then type” ping [server name], and again hit Enter.
- Follow the same procedure on each workstation where you see error h202.
Solution 6. Download the newly released QuickBooks Desktop update
- Close QuickBooks company files if open and then the QuickBooks Desktop application.
- Select the Windows Start menu, find QuickBooks, and double-click it.
- Choose the Run as administrator option and move to the No Company Open screen.
- Select the Help menu and choose Update QuickBooks Desktop.
- Move to the Options tab, click Mark All, and then Save.
- Click the Update Now tab and mark the Reset Update checkbox.
- To start the download, click Get Updates and reopen QuickBooks.
- Complete the installation and reboot your computer.
