12 Tips For Your Makeup
12 Tips that you should follow before doing your bridal makeup
Makeup not only enhances your features and gives you a flawless look, but it also boosts confidence for many. If you have never worn makeup or loves doing makeup, we have covered some tips you need if you are doing your makeup. A beautiful face of makeup is not only applying layers of makeup and using luxury makeup products, it also comes from taking care of your skin. While going for a perfect face of makeup we tend to forget to prep our skin the right way. Here are some steps you need to consider before doing your makeup for every day as well as occasional looks.
1. Cleanse your face
Cleansing your face takes away the dirt, dust, and other impurities present on your skin surface. Use lukewarm water to wash your face with a mild, gentle cleanser. This step softens and evens out your skin. Here’s how you can choose the right cleanser based on your skin type.
Choosing the right cleaner is the first step towards prepping your skin for makeup. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from a cleanser with glycolic acid as the active ingredient as it induces redness and swelling. Furthermore, look for a pH-based cleanser. Ideally, our face pH should lie between 5 and 6. The pH level also states the acidic nature of the cleanser, the lower pH more acidic is the cleanser.
2. Exfoliate once a week
Exfoliating your skin once a week or twice helps remove the dead skin cells lying beneath the skin. No one likes cakey makeup, doesn’t it? Make sure to get rid of the dead skin cells before applying makeup to your face. Look out for a gentle cleanser with small round granules that will gently exfoliate your skin. Rough and irregular ingredients can harm the texture of the skin and can cause more harm than do good. After exfoliating, wash your face with lukewarm water. DON’T often forget to exfoliate and wash your neck as well.
3. Tone it right
After you have gently exfoliated your skin the next important step is toning. Apply toner or serum on the skin and wait for it to dry completely. Toner works well on oily skin whereas serum hydrates dry skin. We often skip this step but it is important to prep your skin right for the layers of makeup you are about to apply. Confused about which serums to choose? Go for Vitamin C serum if you have dark spots and pigmentation. Sodium Hyaluronate serum for locking the moisture levels of your skin and lastly, various herbs to hydrate your skin and stop aging.
4. Eye Cream
A puffy eye can make you look tired even with layers of makeup. As they say, our eyes never lie. If you thought this isn’t an important step then think again. The skin under and around our eyes is extremely sensitive and thin. Hence, it needs special care. So make sure you apply your eye cream gently and even out uneven skin.
5. Moisturize
Moisturizers are non-negotiable, irrespective of your skin type use moisturizer. Before applying your makeup you want to apply a light moisturizer to not make the base oily. Also, make sure the moisturizer you use suits your skin type and provides all-day hydration. Instead of rubbing the moisturizer, rub it gently into your skin. For acne-prone skin, look for a non-comedogenic moisturizer and if you have dry skin then look for a moisturizer that is a little heavy so that it prepares the base for a straight out-of-the-shower look.
6. Prime it up
After your skin is well-moisturized, primer is the next step. Whether you are opting for full-face makeup or if you are going in for light makeup, primer is a must. Primer acts as a shield and prevents the makeup from going deep into your skin. Primer also acts as a base for smoother coverage. Take a pea-sized amount of primer on your brush or beauty blender and then apply it all over your face starting from the center of your face. A pro tip: while using a primer a little goes a long way so use a pea-sized amount and if you need more then you can always use a few more pumps.
7. Foundation and Concealer
Applying foundation is the most tricky part of wearing makeup. Too little and you might as well skip the foundation, too much gives you the ‘cakey look’. You might have already heard of gazillion tips on applying the foundation correctly. Here’s a quick tip on how you can apply the foundation correctly. Use a puffy brush, start by applying the powder gently across your face. In certain areas, you will need more coverage so apply a little more of the powder on these areas.
8. Bronzer
Bronzer can give you a skin-kissed look. Use a dedicated bronzer brush that has tight bristles for a tanned look. Bronzer brushes are crafted with more bristles and are much tightly packed as compared to others.
9. Highlighter
The right highlighter can make or break your look. If you opt for an everyday look or are going for a glamourous look, a highlighter is a must. Highlighters come in various variants such as powders, creams, and liquids. You can either choose a combination of two or go with a single product of your choice. Apply the highlighter on the high peaks of your face such as the cheekbones, the tip of your face, and the crevices of your upper lip. Additionally, you can also apply a highlighter on the insides of your eyes, your chin, and also the center of your forehead.
10. Eye Makeup
After you are done with your face, the next part you need to touch upon is your eyes. If you opt for a glamourous look, go for an eyeshadow complimenting the base and dramatic eyeliner. If you are going basic with your makeup, even a winged eyeliner and mascara will complete your look for the day. You can even take inspiration from your wedding accessories if you are doing makeup for your wedding day.
11. Lipstick
To complete the overall look, nude or bold lipstick will fix your makeup. You can also go for either glossy or matte lipstick based on the makeup you have applied.
12. Setting Spray or Powder
After all the hard work you have done, it is important to seal it in. This is when a setting spray or a powder comes into play. If you want your makeup to stay all day long without it turning greasy then setting spray is a must.
