Step 1
In this sun and moon tutorial, we’ll start with two circles. When it comes to drawing circles, you may not be able to draw a perfect circle yourself, but luckily, you can use some tools to make removing it yourself easier. The best you can use are drawing compasses, and they are great because they are inexpensive to buy, and making circles with pens or pencils are so easy! If you have a compass, hold a pen or pencil and use the pointed end to draw a circle outside. You can make it as big or small as you want, but leave some space on the outer edges for the extensions, which we’ll draw later. Then use your compass to draw another circle within the first one, and it should be pretty close to the outline. If you don’t have a compass, do your best to draw it freehand or trace around some circular object. However you do it, now you’re ready for step 2! Sun And Moon
Step 2 – Next, draw some ray extensions sticking out of the sun
For the second step of drawing the sun and moon, you will find it much easier if you have a ruler on hand, as you will be adding many lines to it. For this part, we will draw many pointed shapes on the sun. There will be equal space between the sun’s rays, as we’ll be drawing more shapes between them in one of the upcoming steps. Do your best to space these spikes as they appear in the reference image, and if you can keep the spacing between them even then, that will be perfect!
Step 3: Now, draw some more shapes between the spikes.
Now that you’ve added the spikes to the picture, we’ll add some wavy shapes between them in the sun and moon tutorial step. Use some wavy lines to create curved forms that end in sharp points. You’ve drawn them as they appear in our reference image; we’ll add some detail to them. Use your ruler to add a line to the center of each straight spike, then freehand to add a line to the center of each wavy shape.
Step 4 – Next, eyeliner, and eyebrows
Your sketch of the sun and moon is done, so now let’s add some face details to the picture. We’ll start with the eyes, in which you can draw two circles with points on each side. Then draw a circle inside the look with a black dot inside each eye. Then, once you’ve removed the eyes, you can add some brows above them. To draw them, we’ll use some long, thin shapes rounded on the inside edge. Then we have some final details to add in the next step before you can color your picture!
Step 5: Now, finish your drawing of the sun and moon.
Before adding some color to your image, we will perfect the face in the sun and moon tutorial step. This will also be where we end up with the half sun and half-moon effect. First, draw a curved line going down from the top of the sun, and then it protrudes into the nose. Then, continue to line from the bottom of the nose to the end of the face. Finally, you can draw a smiley mouth that will appear in both the sun and the moon. With the details outlined, you’ve completed all the steps in this tutorial! Step 6: Complete your sun and moon drawing with some colors.
This is the final step of your sun and moon painting, and for this step, you will finish with some fantastic colors! The color will finish off the effect of the painting, and in our reference image, we used some pretty lovely blues and yellows. Blue represents the colder side of the moon with a friendly and warm yellow for the sun. You can choose these colors or try some variations, but you can also use some of your unique colors!
